The Best Cafés in Madrid: A Coffee Lover’s Guide

The coffee culture is quite prevalent in Madrid, and there are, therefore, dozens of cafés throughout the city.  Although I have been to many, there are seven in particular that I would consider to be my favorite.  Next time you’re in Madrid and need a coffee break, make sure to check out my top cafés!

TOP 7 CAFÉS IN MADRID

7. IL TAVOLO VERDE

I discovered Il Tavolo Verde on a scavenger hunt, and absolutely loved it as soon as I walked in!  It’s a rustic style café with a farmhouse feel, where the furniture is antique and recycled. All food and drink items are homemade, and made from organic ingredients. The café has a homey feel, and is the perfect place to sit with a good book and enjoy a slice of their heavenly organic carrot cake!

6. RELIGION SPECIALTY COFFEE

This small coffee shop tucked away on a corner in Barrio Salamanca has some of the best coffee in the city. They have a great selection of tasty and healthy breakfast and brunch food, as well as, a variety of lactose free milk options. Voted as one of the top 50 coffee shops in Europe, Religion Coffee is a must for coffee lovers!

5. PANCOMIDO

The French bakery is one of my favorite cafés! They specialize in French pastries, and even have a selection of mouth-watering cakes everyday. Stop by in the morning, and you will be greeted by the delicious smell of fresh bread upon entering. Go for the delicious coffee or the amazing breakfast deal; two slices of fresh bread served with homemade jam and butter, or pureed tomatoes (a very typical Spanish breakfast) and any hot beverage for only 2,50 euros!

4. HANSO CAFE

This minimalistic hipster café makes a great cup of coffee!  HanSo Café, located in the Malasaña neighborhood is known for its specialty coffees and pastries. What exactly brought me to this small coffee shop? The red velvet lattes! I’ve never had a red velvet latte before but it was everything my taste buds were expecting and more! If a red velvet latte or a Matcha latte doesn’t sound very appealing, don’t worry because they serve all the classics as well. Pair your cup of joe with one of their delicious cakes or pastries for the perfect afternoon snack.

3. COCA MOCCA

Get your cameras ready for Coca Mocca! This all pink cafe in Madrid is an instagram lover’s dream. The interior is decorated with pink plush seats, a wall of flowers, and a pink telephone booth. Even the plates are pink! They don’t make any of the baked goods themselves, but they do offer a large range of cakes and pastries brought in from a local bakery. Head over for a coffee, a slice of cake and some fun photo moments. Make sure to arrive early, however. The cafe is quite small and seating is limited so there is always a line of people outside.

2. SALÓN DES FLEURS

Salón des Fleurs is unique, as it combines a tea parlor with a flower shop. If you love tea and flowers, then Salón de Fleurs was made for you! It’s easy to miss, as it is not located in the center of Madrid, but it’s well worth the journey. They have an endless selection of classic and unique tea flavors. Pair your hot cup of tea with one of the delicious pastries and you’ve got the perfect afternoon snack! Salon de Fleurs is my go to place on a rainy afternoon.

1. SALVADOR BACHILLER SECRET GARDEN

Interior of Salvador Bachiller Secret Garden

At a first glance, Salvador Bachiller may seem like a strange addition to my list, as it is indeed a suitcase and home store.  However, this store has a secret garden waiting to be discovered!  There are several throughout the city with the speakeasy café, but my favorite is the one in the center near Puerta del Sol.  It has a rooftop garden that serves creative craft cocktails, desserts, and delicious teas and smoothies.  My go to is always the vanilla chai latte with soymilk served in a whimsical tea cup, (which you can purchase in the store) with a small piece of chocolate on the side.  The Secret Garden is the perfect place for a romantic date, or a casual outing with friends!

If you’re a coffee or tea lover like me, or are looking for a quiant spot to meet up with friends or even go on a date, then these cafés are a must the next time you are in Madrid!

Safe Travels,
Vips <3
