Brunch in Madrid: The Best Brunch Spots in the City

Brunch is by far my favorite meal of the day, and I am always on the hunt for new delicious brunch spots! Living in New York City was perfect for my obsession as the brunch culture is quite strong in the Big Apple. Although brunch in Madrid is not as popular as it is in New York, the craze has definitely increased over the past several years. I would even go so far as to say that a few of the restaurants in Madrid have some of the best brunches I have ever had! Whether you are craving some classic Eggs Benedict, a mouth-watering stack of pancakes, or a lighter healthy brunch, there is something for everyone. If you are a lover of brunch like me then keep reading for my list of the best brunch spots in Madrid

If you’re a brunch lover like me and are looking for the perfect spot to enjoy some classic dishes with friends in Madrid, then these brunch spots are a must!

THE BEST BRUNCH IN MADRID

Zenith brunch in Madrid

ZENITH

This chic industrial restaurant in the heart of Malasaña is a must for brunch in Madrid. Zenith first opened its doors in Portugal several years ago and quickly became the “it” spot for brunch in both Porto and Lisbon. They offer brunch all day, every day and have a very extensive menu. The menu offers original dishes, healthy bowls and smoothies, delicious glutinous pancakes, and brunch classics like Eggs Benedict and bagels. They even have vegan and gluten free option for those with dietary restrictions. Try the Shakshuka, or indulge in a stack of Dulce de Leche pancakes! Zenith is very popular on the weekends and they do not accept reservations. Therefore, I highly recommend going early to avoid the long wait.

Vip’s Suggestions: Try the Shakshuka (which can be made vegan) or the Peanut Butter Pancakes for something sweet!

MAZAL BAGELS

One of the things I miss most about living in NYC are the bagels! Whenever I am in the mood for a New York style bagel I head straight to Mazal Bagels in Chamberi. The small locale has freshly baked bagels everyday in a variety of flavors. During the week their menu includes classic bagels with spreads and sandwiches. If you go during the weekend they have a brunch option that includes a main dish (bagels, eggs, or Challah french toast) coffee, juice, and a small yogurt with fruit and granola. They even have freshly baked cookies and cakes if you are craving something sweet after your meal! The cafe has become very popular, so reservations for weekend brunch are a must. However, if there aren’t any open spots you can still order the bagels for pickup or delivery.

Vip’s Suggestion: Brunch Menu Con Dos Huevos on an Everything

panela and co

PANELA & CO

If you’re looking for a more or less healthy brunch in Madrid, then Panela & Co is the perfect spot! The small cafe is located in the Salamanca neighborhood and is a very popular spot for nearby university students. They are known for their healthy street food and have a very extensive brunch menu. You can choose from one of the complete menus with a starter, main dish, drinks, and dessert, or you can order a la carte. They also have quite a large coffee menu, that includes favorites like Chai and Matcha Lattes. Or you can taste one of their many fruit and raw smoothies for something different!

Vip’s Suggestions: Try the Healthy Eggs Benny for a lighter option or indulge in the Red Velvet Pancakes.

Bo Coffee Madrid

BÔ COFFEE

BÔ Specialty Coffee is one of my favorite spots for brunch in Madrid! The small cafe in Chamberi is known for adding a unique twist to classic brunch favorites. They have a range of savory and sweet options to choose from, but if you’re like me then go with both! However, they don’t take reservations so you will most likely end up waiting outside in a line if you go during the weekend. Therefore, I suggest either going early in the morning or aiming to go during the week.

Vip’s Suggestions: The lavender latte is incredible and one of the only places where it’s available in the city!

bendita locura

BENDITA LOCURA COFFEE & DREAMS

Bendita Locura Coffee & Dreams is a cozy spot in the Salamanca neighborhood. The kitchen is open all day, but brunch is a popular meal amongst the locals. Brunch is available Monday to Friday from 10:30-14:00 and on the weekends from 10:30-16:30. They have two options depending on how hungry you are! The classic brunch is 22 euros and includes a starter, main dish, and dessert, plus a coffee or juice. For those who may not have such a large appetite they also have the little Brunch for 17 euros. This option includes a juice or smoothie, main dish and a coffee. Order one of the brunch cocktails for 5 euros if you would like to add an extra kick to your meal!

Vip’s Suggestions: My favorite dish on the menu is the Eggs Benedict on Brioche and I highly suggest trying the Mimosa Estilo Bendita

la desayuneria
The Morning American Special

LA DESAYUNERIA

If you are craving greasy diner style breakfast or brunch then La Desayuneria is a must! They have a very extensive menu with some fun dishes like Chicken and Waffles and Pumpkin Pancakes. The only downside is that it will be very difficult to decide what to order. If you can’t chose between a savory or sweet dish then go for one of the platters. These come with eggs, potatoes, bacon and pancakes. You’ll have a bit of everything to satisfy your taste buds. Top off your meal with a classic homemade milkshake for the ultimate diner experience!

Vip’s Suggestions: Try the Morning American Special for a bit of everything!

CASA SUECIA

For a fun afternoon of endless food, cava, and music there is no better place than Casa Suecia. The NH hotel in the center of Madrid offers Bubble Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 13:00-16:00. For only 31 euros you get unlimited food, juice, and cava.

While you devour the never-ending food and sip the bottomless glasses of champagne there is a DJ playing requested tunes all afternoon. Casa Suecia’s Bubble Brunch is perfect to celebrate a special event, birthday, or just spend a fun afternoon with friends!

Vip’s Suggestions: Try everything they bring over to the table! It’s unlimited so you can ask for refills on the platters.

carmencita bar

CARMENCITA BAR

Carmencita Bar is a classic brunch spot in Madrid. They serve brunch all day and have an extensive menu with many egg based dishes. Upgrade your brunch for only 4 euros more and you’ll get a coffee, mimosa and dessert along with your main dish. Their portions are quite large and the food is delicious. It’s also one of the only places I’ve gone in Madrid that serves hash browns as a side! I especially love the carrot cake, which I am usually too full to eat but can take home in a to-go container. Reservations are a must as the restaurant is small and tables are usually booked on the weekends.

Vip’s Suggestions: If you are very hungry go for the Bunny Plate and upgrade to add a coffee, mimosa and dessert.

FEDERAL CAFE

Up until a few years ago, brunch in Madrid was not very popular. Federal Cafe was one of the first places to offer brunch when the craze arrived to the European capital. They now have two locations in Madrid. The menu has a mix of classics dishes and some with a Spanish twist. The items are also very customizable allowing you to add or replace certain ingredients. They offer sizzling oven skillet eggs, healthy toast, dairy free milk options, and a variety of delectable pastries. The cafes also have a great atmosphere with large tables where you can go and do some work while you enjoy your eggs Benedict. They don’t accept reservations however, so I suggest going early to avoid a long wait.

Vip’s Suggestions: The oven skillet eggs are definitely my favorite dish on the menu. You can also add sides if you want some salmon or avocado to go with it.

brunch in madrid

RUN RUN RUN CAFE

This unique cafe is all about clean eating, featuring a locally sourced and organic menu. The location in itself is very fun with bright colors and lots of greenery hanging from the ceilings. Run Run Run Cafe is a part of La Musa chain so they offer Menu del Dia and dinner specials as well, but I would say that brunch is the star! They have several set brunch menus to choose from, or you can order a la carte. Each menu comes with a main egg-based entree, a side dish, fruit, and dessert. As well as a glass of fresh OJ and tea or coffee. The price for the brunch menu is 17 euros, which I found to be a great deal for the portions!

Vip’s Suggestions: Try the Shasuka brunch menu that comes with a side of pita bread, two pancakes, and a fruit salad!

If you’re a brunch lover like me and are looking for the perfect spot to enjoy some classic dishes with friends in Madrid, then these brunch spots are a must!
